Why networking apps aren’t working
and what we’re doing differently

May 20, 2025

Traditional networking apps feel noisy, transactional, and misaligned. This post explores what’s broken—and how Satius offers a more intentional, offline-first alternative for meaningful connection.

Introduction

Networking apps promised connection. What they delivered was fatigue.

Endless swiping, transactional small talk, and a sea of strangers—most of whom you’ll never meet. Whether you're a founder, creative, investor, or solo traveler, chances are you've opened one of these apps and thought: This isn’t it.

At Satius, we believe meaningful relationships aren’t built through likes, swipes, or scheduled introductions. They happen through energy, alignment, and shared presence. That’s why we created a new kind of members' club—one that values depth over reach, and real-world connection over digital noise.

What’s broken with
traditional networking apps?

Most networking tools are designed to maximize volume—not value. Whether it’s a professional platform or a social discovery app, they tend to rely on the same broken mechanics:

  • Swiping culture: The gamification of human connection has made it harder, not easier, to form meaningful relationships. Swiping encourages speed, not substance. It turns people into profiles and interactions into transactions.
  • Status over substance: Many professional platforms rank users by job title, industry clout, or social following. This fosters shallow networking, where value is measured by résumé highlights rather than resonance or shared values.
  • Overcrowded and uncurated: Anyone can join. Anyone can message. And that means time wasted on irrelevant conversations, mismatched energy, and inbox fatigue. There's no signal—only noise.
  • Stale networking events: Even in-person networking often feels like a forced exchange of business cards, not a place for serendipity. You're either selling something, or being sold to.
  • No sense of place: Most platforms are digital-only. They lack a spatial or emotional anchor—no beautiful café to meet at, no trusted venue to gather in, no shared rhythm that makes interactions feel natural.

What we
longed for

We wanted something better.

Something that helped us feel the city we were in. That helped us meet people we'd actually connect with. That worked for the way we lived:

  • Travelling often
  • Working creatively or independently
  • Prioritizing alignment, not just industry tags
  • Wanting to connect offline, but with purpose

So we designed Satius to meet those needs—and built it to elevate your everyday.

How Satius
is different

Satius isn’t a networking app. It’s a curated members' club built around people, places, and presence. Here's how we’ve reimagined the experience:

  • No swipes, no cold pitches: Connection in Satius is built on mutual presence, not randomness. You can see who’s nearby, discover members in a new city, and request to meet—always with intention.
  • Selective, not status-based: We accept members based on alignment, not titles. Creatives, investors, founders, artists, explorers—all welcome, as long as their values resonate. We don’t filter by power. We filter by energy.
  • A living map, not a feed: Instead of scrolling endlessly, you explore a map of beautifully curated venues—cafés, rooftops, galleries, concept stores—chosen for their aesthetic, ambiance, and soul.
  • Designed for offline moments: Satius isn’t about chatting endlessly. It’s about meeting. Whether it’s for coffee, a gallery walk, or a spontaneous dinner—Satius helps you turn the digital into the real.
  • Encounters, not events: We don't do stale networking sessions. We host and enable “encounters”—smaller, more spontaneous, and more human. A shared interest. A new idea. A walk that turns into a friendship.

Who we're
building for

Satius is made for those who are done with shallow connections and are seeking depth, curiosity, and a better social rhythm.

  • Founders looking for allies, not just investors
  • Artists & creatives seeking inspiration in conversation
  • Solo travelers & remote workers who crave local presence
  • Cultural explorers who want to know where to go and who to meet
  • Tastemakers, dreamers, and thinkers who move with intention

These aren’t people chasing influence. They’re people building interesting lives—and seeking others doing the same.

A better way
to belong

You deserve more than swipe fatigue, LinkedIn cold messages, or cookie-cutter meetups.

You deserve to walk into a new city and already feel connected.
To meet people who understand your rhythm.
To be part of something quiet, beautiful, and real.

That’s what Satius offers.

Final note:
The future of connection isn’t a feed

The future of social discovery isn’t about louder algorithms. It’s about better design—of space, community, and energy.

Satius isn’t trying to make you more connected online.
We’re here to help you live more meaningfully offline.
